Along the Shore : Best Beaches Near Flamborough
Whether you're looking for dramatic chalk cliffs, quiet coves, rock pooling or a traditional sandy beach, Flamborough is perfectly placed to explore some of the Yorkshire coast's most beautiful beaches.
From Cherry Tree Cottage, several are within a 5–15 minute drive, while a couple can even be reached on foot along the coast path.
Here are some of our favourites.
South Landing
Approx. 5 minutes by car or a 20 minute walk
If we had to choose just one, this would probably be it.
Nestled beneath towering white chalk cliffs, South Landing has a wonderfully sheltered feel. It's also one of the best places to join the King Charles III England Coast Path, with spectacular walks leading north towards Flamborough Head and Bempton Cliffs or south towards Bridlington. At low tide, the beach becomes a fantastic place for rock pooling, while the surrounding cliffs are home to seabirds during spring and summer.

North Landing
Approx. 5 minutes by car or a 25 minute walk
North Landing still has a working fishing community and plenty of character.
Colourful fishing boats sit above the beach and, if you're lucky, you might even see local fishermen bringing in their catch.
There's also a café overlooking the bay, making it the perfect stop after a coastal walk.

Danes Dyke Beach
Approx. 10 minutes by car
Reached by a woodland walk through the nature reserve, Danes Dyke feels wonderfully hidden.
At low tide you'll find fascinating rock formations and plenty of space to explore, while the wooded approach makes it feel completely different from the open cliffs around Flamborough Head.
It's particularly lovely in spring when the woodland is carpeted with wildflowers.

Bridlington North Beach
Approx. 15 minutes by car
If you're after a traditional seaside day, Bridlington North Beach offers a huge expanse of golden sand that's ideal for families.
There's plenty of room for games, paddling and long walks, with cafés, ice cream and the promenade just a short stroll away.
Perfect for:
Families
Sandcastles
Traditional seaside fun
Fraisthorpe Beach
Approx. 20 minutes by car
A favourite with locals, Fraisthorpe is a wide sandy beach with a much quieter feel than Bridlington.
It's ideal if you simply want space to spread out, enjoy a picnic or take a long walk along the shoreline.
The nearby Cow Shed café is well worth a visit afterwards.
Perfect for:
Long beach walks
Dog walking (seasonal restrictions apply)
Relaxing
Thornwick Bay
Approx. 5 minutes by car or 25 minutes walk
More of a hidden cove than a traditional beach, Thornwick Bay is one of the most dramatic places on the Yorkshire coast.
The towering cliffs, sea caves and crystal-clear water make it incredibly photogenic, particularly early in the morning or towards sunset.
